Plastic Surgery For Patients With Chronic Conditions

Plastic Surgery For Patients With Chronic Conditions

Introduction

Plastic surgery is a major and invasive operation. There is this widely held misconception that plastic surgery is a simple and non-invasive procedure such as getting makeup or haircut. This is not the truth. The fact is that plastic surgery is risky, traumatic, and entails complications. The surgery involves incisions, which will ultimately develop into scars. In light of these, plastic surgeons assess the overall health of the patient while determining candidacy for any procedure.

The risks are greater for people with health problems, particularly chronic conditions. As such, you should do a risk/benefit analysis of the operation and undergo surgery only when the benefits are greater than the risks. Moreover, you should use plastic surgery as a last option to enhance your body. You should first try non-invasive methods instead of plastic surgery.

Pre-operative consultation

Your candidacy for plastic surgery will be determined during the pre-operative consultation. The plastic surgeon will examine your body, know your goals, and thoroughly assess your health to determine whether you are a good candidate. Keep in mind that there are some health issues that can increase the risks for you during and after the surgery. The doctor will ask about your health and medication history.

Remember, not every medical problem can keep you from going under the knife. Whether the health issue will affect your candidacy depends on the severity of the issue. It also depends on the type of health condition you are suffering from. There are also many chronic health issues that will not affect your candidacy. On the other hand, there are certain serious health complications that may affect your health and increase the risks for you. In such cases, the doctor will advise you to avoid the procedure. You too should not insist on undergoing the surgery if the doctor tells you that you can experience life-threatening complications.

Severe diabetes

Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that may affect your candidacy for plastic surgery. In most cases of mild diabetes, the patient will still be able to undergo the surgery. However, if the diabetes is chronic, it can increase the risks for you manifold. If your diabetes is not chronic, you can safely undergo the procedure because there are no life-threatening risks for you.

Keep in mind that diabetes is a health problem whereby your body fails to effectively use the sugar, especially the glucose, present in your diet. No matter you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, the sugar level of your blood will be abnormally high. If the sugar level is too high, it can create complications during and after plastic surgery. Very high sugar level can result in excessive bleeding, poor and slow wound healing, poor aesthetic results, and heart issues.

The plastic surgeon will assess the severity if your diabetes and then determine whether it is safe for you to go under the knife. The surgeon may advise you to avoid the procedure if the diabetes is chronic. If the diabetes is not chronic, the surgeon can allow you to undergo the procedure; however, additional measures and precautions would be taken during the surgery and the recovery period.

Heart problems

Severe heart problem is yet another health condition that may affect your candidacy for plastic surgery. The plastic surgeon will specifically assess the condition of your heart to determine your candidacy. Many patients want to know whether they can undergo plastic surgery when they have heart disease. The answer is that it depends on how severe the heart disease is. Moreover, it also counts on health issues linked with your heart disease, your history of heart attacks, and the trauma involved in the particular procedure that you want to undergo.

After looking at the history of your heart disease and assessing the health of your heart, the plastic surgeon will decide how risky the plastic surgery can be for you or whether the benefits will be greater than the associated risks. In case the risks are higher, the surgeon will advise you to avoid the procedure. In most cases of mild to moderate heart problems, the patients turn out to be a good candidate. If the condition is chronic and the surgeon believes the surgery could be life-threatening for you, you will be told to avoid the procedure, or special precautions would be put in place during the surgery. Also, you will be required to be extra careful during the recovery period.

To get to the core of your heart disease, the surgeon will ask you to get an EKG. Also, if the condition is severe, the plastic surgeon would like to discuss it with your cardiologist to determine your candidacy for the operation. It is important for people suffering from chronic heart disease to first get clearance from their cardiologists. You should not be upset if the doctor tells you to avoid the procedure. Your health and life are more important than body aesthetics.

High blood pressure

Hypertension or high blood pressure is yet another health issue that would be assessed during the pre-operative consultation. Hypertension is not always a primary reason for rejection of your candidacy. If you have chronic hypertension, it can create complications during the surgery. Whether hypertension can be life-threatening during plastic surgery also depends on the specific procedure you are seeking. The surgical trauma and the type of anesthesia will also determine the level of risks posed by high blood pressure.

During the consultation, the surgeon will check your blood pressure history and severity in case you have suffered from high blood pressure in the past. If the doctor believes that you will be exposed to more risks during the surgery, he will advise you to avoid the procedure. On the other hand, if the blood pressure issue is not chronic, you can still undergo surgery.

During the surgery, a board-certified anesthesiologist will keep check on your major blood pressure indications. He will control your heart rate and respiratory behavior. If required, the anesthesiologist may give you IV medicines to keep your blood pressure normal during the operation.

Blood disorders

Blood disorder is also a health complication that can lead to more risks during plastic surgery. If you have blood disorders like blood clotting or excessive bleeding, you may experience complications during the surgery and recovery period. The level of risks depends on the severity of the problem. If you already know that you have blood problems, you must share this information with the doctor during consultation.

The plastic surgeon will assess the type of blood disorder, its severity, and the problems it can create during the surgery and recovery. If the condition turns out to be chronic, you will be advised to avoid surgery. In most cases, your hematologist will be consulted to get his or her feedback on your candidacy for plastic surgery.

If both the plastic surgeon and hematologist believe that the blood disorder is not chronic and the risks are not as high, you will qualify for the procedure. However, you will require extra care during and after the surgery.

Autoimmune disease

The plastic surgeon will also assess your health for autoimmune diseases. If you have an autoimmune disorder, be sure to tell it to the surgeon. An autoimmune disorder is a condition whereby your immune system mistakes your body organs or parts as foreign elements, thereby attacking and damaging them. Like other health problems, an autoimmune problem can differ in severity. If the problem is chronic, the surgeon may either tell you to avoid the procedure, or additional measures would be taken during the surgery. The good news is that certain medicines can be used to temporarily control an autoimmune disease.

Some examples of autoimmune disease include psoriasis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and chronic rheumatic heart disease. If you have any chronic form of these diseases, you should avoid plastic surgery, as it would multiply the risks for you. A chronic autoimmune disorder can make plastic surgery life-threatening for you. One study even found that severe autoimmune disorder can make you six times more likely to experience pulmonary embolism during the operation.

Conclusion

Many people consider plastic surgery to be an easy and risk-free procedure. The fact is that plastic surgery involves incisions and trauma, which expose the patient to many risks. The level of risks depends on your existing health condition. If you are suffering from chronic diseases, you may not be a good candidate or additional precautionary measures would be needed during the surgery and the recovery. The chronic disease that can affect your candidacy has been discussed above.

Goals Of Plastic Surgery

Goals Of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery can be a necessity when it comes to remodeling abnormal structures of the body or it can be performed for strictly aesthetic reasons. Whatever the reason might be, undergoing plastic surgery can be a difficult decision to make. When considering a plastic surgery procedure, it is essential to be fully aware of not only the benefits, but also the risks and possible complications that can occur.

While plastic surgery is widely performed on a daily basis all over the world, there are still discussions about what the goals of plastic surgery are. Some people tend to see procedures such as liposuction and tummy suck as a means to get rid of excessive weight.

The goals of plastic surgery are not the same as the goals of bariatric surgery. While bariatric surgery aims to create premises that will allow the patient to lose a considerable amount of weight in a shorter or longer period of time, plastic surgery works differently. Even procedures that are known to be effective in improving the appearance of the body and slimming it are not a treatment for obesity or people who are overweight. Plastic surgery comes to refine the results achieved with bariatric surgery or other weight loss methods by enhancing the contours of the body after weight loss. But weight loss is not a goal of plastic surgery, whatever procedure the patient might have in mind.

What is actually a goal of plastic surgery is to correct body features and create a harmonious profile for the patient. Patients with very small breasts or the opposite can notice a significant increase in the quality of life after undergoing a plastic surgery procedure that will make the breasts more in line with the rest of their anatomy.

A more youthful appearance can be another goal of plastic surgery. Many patients choose plastic surgery to eliminate the signs of aging from the face and/or body.

Plastic surgery also allows for a more radical remodeling of the body and even improving body shape. Women with different body shapes can choose hourglass procedures to get closer to the most revered body shape, which is the hourglass silhouette. When these procedures are performed, it usually involves a combination of liposuction and fat transfer to create volumes in all the right places.

Another important goal of plastic surgery is also to help mothers get their pre-pregnancy body back. Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can put a woman’s body through tremendous changes, and most women find it difficult to get back to their initial shape and size even years after they have given birth. Plastic surgery can help them with a set of procedures called the Mommy Makeover. The procedures included are often a breast lift with or without implants, a tummy tuck, and liposuction. Depending from case to case, other procedures might be required as well.

How Dangerous Is Plastic Surgery?

How Dangerous Is Plastic Surgery?

Introduction

Plastic surgery is an effective tool to improve the appearance of the body, correct physical imperfections, and get the body you have always wanted. No more emotional struggles caused by having overly small or overly large breasts, no more dissatisfaction caused by having a small and flat butt, no more adipose pockets localized in different areas of the body! Plastic surgery can also help you erase some signs of aging and provide you with a more youthful appearance, despite your years.

Plastic surgery is widely performed nowadays in countries all over the globe. Some might even say that it is so popular it becomes trivialized. However, plastic surgery is an important decision to make, and it can lead to significant physical and also psychological changes for the patient.

A question that concerns people interested in undergoing different plastic surgery procedures is about how dangerous plastic surgery actually is. There are many highlighted cases of botched procedures and death after plastic surgery, and one might tend to believe that plastic surgery is just as risky as Russian roulette. But on the other hand, more and more people, and even people in our close proximity such as friends, coworkers, and relatives are undergoing plastic surgery and enjoying the spectacular results of it without dealing with any complications.

In this article, we will discuss how dangerous plastic surgery is and what can be done to minimize the risks associated with it.

Risks associated with plastic surgery

Plastic surgery is nowadays widely accessible and available, not to mention fashionable. However, before deciding to undergo this type of procedure, it is important to be aware of the risks involved and the complications that can occur in time. The success of plastic surgery is not entirely dependent on the skills and experience of the surgeon, but also on your genes, age and lifestyle. Last but not least, the equipment and facilities of the clinic where your procedure is performed and the quality of the tools and devices used by the plastic surgeon can play a major role in the success of your procedure.

Any surgical act is associated with specific risks. Some of them are common to all surgeries while others depend on the type of procedure. Generally speaking, the risks associated with plastic surgery are:

Anesthesia risks

For your procedure, the surgeon might recommend general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Any type of anesthesia entails some risks that will be discussed in detail both with the plastic surgeon and the anesthetist before the procedure. What is important to keep in mind is that anesthesia risks have been significantly reduced over the years due to the development of modern medicine.

Bleeding

A certain amount of bleeding is normal during and after a surgical procedure. During surgery, the tissues and blood vessels are sectioned, which results in bleeding. The plastic surgeon will use special techniques to minimize the bleeding and will also give you a set of recommendations for pre- and post-operative care to make sure this risk is prevented. During the first few days after surgery, any intense movements can lead to bleeding. The bleeding can be internal or external. If the bleeding persists or is excessive, contact your surgeon to find an alternative treatment. Avoiding anti-inflammatory medication can also help reduce the risk of excessive bleeding.

Infection

When dealing with open wounds, there is always the risk of infection present. Even something as insignificant as cutting yourself with paper can lead to the infection of the area. Plastic surgery often entails significant incisions positioned in different areas of the body, some more prone to bacterial proliferation that others. There are strict recommendations for post-op incisions care that should be followed to the letter to avoid developing an infection. In the case of augmentation procedures, the infection can be on the incisions on the surface of the skin or deep down in the pocket where the implant was inserted.

Antibiotics treatment is usually prescribed for five days post-op to reduce the risk of developing an infection after plastic surgery. The patient should be made aware of the risks and the symptoms because infections require immediate treatment. This means that if you are experiencing intense pain, redness in the area, pus coming from the incisions, and high fever, the recommendation is to contact your doctor immediately as these might all be signs of infection.

Unsightly scars

When undergoing heart surgery, patients rarely wonder about the shape, size, and visibility of the scars. However, things are very different when it comes to plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is mostly performed for aesthetic purposes. This means that the appearance of the scars is a part of the success of the surgery. No patient will ever want to get the perfect breasts but with huge, unsightly looking scars all over them. The scars are permanent, and if the healing process goes smoothly and uneventfully, the scars will look like white, fine lines a year after the procedure.

However, not all the scars go through a normal cicatrization process. Some patients are prone to bad scarring or developing keloid or hypertrophic scars. If you had other surgeries in the past, let your plastic surgeon know about this and also how the healing process went. Also, it is unreasonable to expect the scars to fade away weeks after the procedure. The scars go through multiple stages before they heal completely and mature, and in some stages, they can even look worse immediately after the procedure. To minimize the risk of being left with unsightly looking scars, make sure to go to the follow-up consultations with the plastic surgeon. Even in the case of developing abnormal scarring, the plastic surgeon can use different methods and treatment plans to reduce the bad appearance of the scars.

Unsatisfactory results

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this has been a reality for centuries now. To evaluate the results of plastic surgery, we have industry standards and measurements. However, even if your breasts will look perfect by many people’s standards, they can still be not what you wanted to achieve. For some patients, going from an A bra cup size to a C is the perfect result. However, for others, it is a D cup or a specific shape or a correction of the asymmetry. To reduce the risk of dissatisfaction, it is essential to choose a plastic surgeon that you can communicate with openly and honestly. Make sure that the plastic surgeon has understood exactly what you expect to achieve and has confirmed that your expectations are reasonable. Also, always choose a board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon to minimize the risks of getting unsatisfactory results.

Dangers of plastic surgery

Most of the dangers of plastic surgery are associated with one of the following:

–   Inexperienced plastic surgeon

–   Improper medical facility

–   Use of bad quality materials

–   Patient’s inability to follow instructions

Each plastic surgery procedure has a set of dos and don’ts. Some of them are for the surgeon to be aware of and respect when performing the surgery; the others are for the patient. Plastic surgery becomes dangerous when the surgeon or the patient doesn’t follow the rules. Otherwise, there are just some risks that can be associated with any type of surgery and are often minor.

Conclusion

When performed by a board-certified, experienced plastic surgeon in an accredited medical facility and after a proper consultation with both the plastic surgeon and the anesthetist that will assist during surgery, plastic surgery poses minimal risks. However, when these conditions are not followed, the risks of developing a complication are high.

There are risks involved with any type of surgical act, and plastic surgery is no different. In this article, we have discussed some of these risks such as the risks associated with anesthesia, excessive bleeding, and unsightly scarring, among others. Most of these risks can be minimized or avoided altogether if the patient follows a strict pre- and post-operative plan. However, there is never a guarantee that the medical act will be risk-free. You should also know that plastic surgery entails more risks when performed on patients after a certain age, with different chronic or severe health conditions, or on obese patients.

Emotional Condition And Plastic Surgery

Emotional Condition And Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is performed on an elective basis, unlike other types of surgical procedures performed to improve the health of the patient. In a vast majority of cases, plastic surgery is not a necessity from a medical point of view, but a solution to improve the appearance and the quality of life for the patient. However, for a plastic surgery to provide the desired results, certain factors come to play, and one of the most important is the emotional condition of the patient.

During the pre-operative consultation, the plastic surgeon has the responsibility to make sure that your mental and emotional condition is stable, your reasons for choosing plastic surgery are valid, and you understand the risks and potential complications associated with the procedure you want to have.

Having a good emotional condition is essential to the success of your procedure and to achieve satisfactory results. You can see on TV and all over the magazines that there are people all over the world who took it too far in terms of getting plastic surgery. Some of them ended up with a botched appearance, others have been confronted with life-threatening consequences, and some have even lost their lives in the pursuit of the perfect appearance. But if we have a look at these cases, in a vast majority of cases we are talking about patients who didn’t have a good, stable emotional condition. A dysmorphic body image is a condition that is characterized by the patient requesting repeated plastic surgery as he or she has a self-image that has no real grounds. More often, we notice people who suffer due to what they consider terrible physical imperfections when other people barely (if ever) notice it. This is all related to the emotional condition of the patient.

A patient that is stable emotionally understands that plastic surgery won’t change his life completely. Getting bigger breasts or buttocks won’t bring back your partner who left you for another woman. This is not the goal of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is meant to improve the appearance of the body and correct certain imperfections that create emotional of physical discomfort. The only one who is able to check your motives and give you the go signal for undergoing plastic surgery is the surgeon himself, and only after a thorough physical examination and a conversation about your desires and expectations.

Plastic surgery can’t change the patient’s life overnight; it can’t cure depression or make the patient feel completely different about self-image. The improvements brought by plastic surgery should be evaluated with a pragmatic eye and by a patient who is emotionally stable.

In many cases, patients who had plastic surgery despite their emotional instability ended up pursuing many other additional procedures, despite the fact that the initial procedure was successful according to industry standards. In other words, if the patient has an overall bad opinion about his or her body, chances are this can’t be corrected with the help of plastic surgery. Professional help is in order to improve the mental and emotional condition before undergoing plastic surgery.

Anesthesia Options For Plastic Surgery

Anesthesia Options For Plastic Surgery

Any type of surgical act requires the use of anesthesia. The role of anesthesia is to help the patient feel no pain during the procedure. The main types of anesthesia used for plastic surgery are general anesthesia and local anesthesia with sedation.

During the pre-operative consultation, you will discuss the details of the anesthesia with the plastic surgeon. Depending on your particularities or the type of procedure to be performed, the plastic surgeon will recommend one type of anesthesia or the other. Generally speaking, for longer procedures or procedures targeting a larger area of the body, general anesthesia is often preferred for the comfort of the patient. For example, breast enhancement procedures such as a breast lift, breast augmentation, breast reduction and buttock enhancement procedures such as butt implant surgery and fat transfer to the buttocks often use general anesthesia. At the same time, for body lift procedures such as the tummy tuck and brachioplasty, the recommendation is still to use general anesthetic. However, liposuction can be performed with local anesthesia with sedation, but it depends from patient to patient.

During the pre-operative consultation with the plastic surgeon, you will get an idea about the type of anesthesia recommended for your particular case. However, an ulterior meeting will be scheduled with the anesthesiologist to have an exam and decide the doses of the anesthesia and what anesthetic will be used. Make sure to tell both the plastic surgeon and anesthetist if you have a history of allergies to certain medication.

When anesthesia is used, what actually happens is that the anesthetist will inject the patient (usually intravenous) with what we can call a sleeping substance. During general anesthesia, many of the body functions are limited or inactive, and the patient needs external support. General anesthesia helps the patient feel no pain when the procedure is performed, have no reflexes during the surgical act, and also have no memories during the operation. When anesthesia is used, the medical staff has the responsibility to monitor the vitals of the patient throughout the procedure and until the patient makes a complete recovery from the effects of the anesthetic. Always make sure you choose a board-certified plastic surgeon and anesthetist to play out your procedure in an accredited medical facility with all the safety protocols in place. This is important both for the success of your surgery and to avoid potential complications that can occur during the operation.

Most patients know that the role of the plastic surgeon doesn’t end after the procedure. Follow-up consultations will be scheduled and the plastic surgeon has the responsibility to monitor the patient during the recovery period. The same is valid for the anesthetist. His role is not finished when the patient wakes up from the effects of the anesthetic. The anesthetist will monitor the patient after the surgery and will offer treatment for post-op pain.

Are Antibiotics Mandatory After Plastic Surgery?

Are Antibiotics Mandatory After Plastic Surgery?

In the last decade, the abuse of antibiotics was significantly debated. Recently, more doctors would try to avoid prescribing antibiotics as much as possible as they tend to create a lack of immune response from your metabolism in the long run. However, most doctors will prescribe preventive antibiotic treatments before or after plastic surgery. Even if infection occurs only in small percentages, every surgeon is creating a safe passage for the procedure by asking the patient to take antibiotics when dealing with any kind of augmentation.

Antibiotics are commonly used in cosmetic surgeries, and many people ask why. You need to understand that even if you need them or not, antibiotics will reduce any kind of risks when dealing with future infections. This is why many plastic surgeries will be performed getting some help from this type of medicine.

Even if some augmentation procedures like facelift surgery, eyelid surgery, or rhinoplasty will not require any antibiotics, your surgeon will not hesitate to prescribe antibiotics when dealing with a complex augmentation, especially when implants are required. This is mainly because your body will need to interact with foreign objects. The body will tend to heal all the tissue surrounding it, but in some cases, your body cannot fight by itself, and that is why surgeons will take extra measures.

Between doctors, there is one argument that is creating different opinions regarding the one-dose protocol versus using multiple doses before and after the procedure. Some studies showed that patients who are subjected to breast reconstruction tend to develop infections more often when a single dose is applied. This is why even if in most cases the one-dose protocol works perfectly fine, when applied to breast augmentations it created controversy. Also, the one-dose argument was contradicted when between 2007 and 2010, a study showed that more patients tend to develop infections when a single dose is applied. The difference was from 19% to 34%, which is why more surgeons at the moment will adapt the treatment according to the patient’s recovery process, and s/he will not especially use the “one-dose” protocol.

Even if it might sound scary, an infection is not something that usually occurs after plastic surgery. In the end, it is not something to worry about. Of course, as a side effect the probability of an infection is always there, but these percentages are only a small number. For example, 19% and 34% are the results of the overall side effect that occurs only in 2% of patients. An infection can be caused by seromas or hematomas developed after the surgery or by inappropriate care of the wounds. A plastic surgeon will know exactly how to deal with this issue. An infection can also always be prevented on time, especially if you follow all medical advice after the procedure.

Why Do I Need To Stop Birth Control Before Plastic Surgery?

Why Do I Need To Stop Birth Control Before Plastic Surgery?

As the medical industry continues to advance, new methods of birth control have been invented. Birth control treatments are now commonly used to prevent pregnancy. Every surgical procedure has its own set of precautionary measures that is primarily recommended by your surgeon. However, if you are under birth control and fail to inform your surgeon, it can trigger significant complications after a surgical procedure.

Birth control pills contain estrogen and progesterone—hormones that affect a woman in many ways. Though these pills are best at preventing pregnancy, seeking medical advice on this issue prior to surgery is important. Depending on what procedure you are interested in, taking birth control pills before surgery could trigger unpredictable and even strange complications later on.

Why do you need to stop taking birth control pills before surgery?

Oral contraceptives can increase the development of blood clots during and after surgery. In fact, women who take contraceptive pills are at risk of developing blood clots in the legs during or after pregnancy.

When blood clots develop in the blood vessels (especially in the lower limbs), it can dislodge and turn into an embolus. This will then get attached to the pulmonary vessels, making the blood supply cease and can even cause the death of the patient. A study published in Acta Anesthesiologica Belgia Journal in 2014 supported this theory and concluded that massive pulmonary embolism had been reported in young women who were on oral contraceptives. Due to this, doctors often recommend avoiding birth control pills for at least 4-6 weeks before the surgery. During this time, coagulation will return to its normal state.

Additionally, research has proved that birth control treatments are associated with the formation of blood clots specifically in surgeries longer than 1-2 hours. It is therefore very important to mention every single detail to your doctor prior to any surgery. This also includes supplements and other medications taken regularly.

Providing an extensive medical history to your doctor goes a long way. This includes mentioning a previous history of blood clots, blood pressure, cancer, blood disorders, and other pre-existing conditions. Your doctor will suggest when to resume taking contraceptives again after the procedure on the basis of your health profile.

If you still want to use a contraceptive treatment, ask your doctor for alternative options. Compression stockings and anticoagulants are given where the risks of blood clots are higher than usual. Nevertheless, in minor surgeries performed under local anesthesia, the discontinuation of contraceptive pills may be short-term. Everybody wants a safe surgery with little to no complications and rapid recovery.

How Safe Is Fat Transfer To The Hips?

How Safe Is Fat Transfer To The Hips?

When dealing with hip augmentation, a doctor might suggest a fat transfer procedure, also known as fat grafting. During the surgery, liposuction is used in order for the surgeon to harvest fat tissue from other areas of your body and inject them in your hips. During the transfer, the fat tissue will be purified before inserted in your hips, and sometimes some of the fat deposits will not survive. This is why in some cases a second procedure will be needed. Not every patient qualifies for this type of augmentation as the patient needs to have significant fat tissue in the areas from which the tissue will be harvested. The procedure will last a few hours, depending on the amount of fat that needs to be transferred.

Liposuction is used in order for the doctor to be able to harvest the desired fat tissues. A fat transfer procedure has the same risks as liposuction. Major complications like organ puncture (especially when the fat is harvested from the abdomen), infection, allergic reactions to medication, and pulmonary embolism can occur during or after the procedure. Adding liposuction safety to the procedure will help us draw the line.

Benefits

Now if we are to compare hip implants with fat transfer hip augmentation, the fat transfer procedure will win by far. Fat transfer is always recommended before implants if the patient is a good candidate. The advantages include:

  • You don’t need general anesthetic

A local anesthetic is much safer for the patient. With general anesthetic, higher risks are on the table.

  • No chances of rejection

As your volume will increase using your own fat, there are no rejection side effects involved.

  • Hospitalization

Apart from major complications occurring during the procedure, most patients will not require hospitalization. Fat transfer procedure requires less invasive areas overall, so basically you will be ready to go home after the surgery.

Putting in balance the benefits and the low risks involved using liposuction, if we can grade safety from 1 to 10 (with one being the safest), a fat transfer hip augmentation will get an easy 2. There is nothing to worry about, as basically all the cosmetic surgeries are becoming safer with each passing day.

Can I Use A Donor For Fat Transfer?

Can I Use A Donor For Fat Transfer?

The fat transfer method is used most of the time in butt augmentation surgeries. You can either enhance your buttock volume using gluteal implants or by transferring fat cell deposits. Most patients ask if they can use a donor for harvesting the required amount of fat cells. In this particular case, you cannot use another person for collecting fat. Unfortunately, the condition to be eligible for fat transfer procedures is to have enough adipose deposits localized in other areas of your body.

When you try to use fat from a donor, your body is more likely to reject any strange fat cells as your body will recognize them as “unusual” and your immune system will basically attack the new cells. The same happens when your body is rejecting a new donated organ.

During the procedure, your surgeon needs to harvest pockets of fat from different areas of your body, most likely your abdominal area. If you do not have enough fat deposits around your abdomen, it can be harvested from your arms, hips or thighs. In this case, the procedure will be a bit more complex as liposuction needs to be used in different areas. Sometimes the patients will be asked to come in for multiple sessions. If your fat deposit amount is not enough for a full augmentation, you can use gluteal implants to achieve a larger volume for your buttocks.

Some procedures are made using gluteal implants and fat transfer at the same time. Basically, after the implants are inserted, the surgeon will add some fat cells around the implants. This will offer a better result as the fat deposits surrounding the implants will create a more natural aspect and also will strengthen the area around the implant.

You can also use a fat transfer for facial augmentation, hands, breast augmentation or reconstruction. During the procedure, fat cells will be harvested using liposuction and transferred using small syringes to inject them into the targeted area. Fat cells also need to go through a purification process. Once the fat is harvested, it will be placed in a special centrifuge that will remove any impurities. This is basically a purification process that will keep only the healthy cells.

The main advantages for fat transfer augmentation are that the final result will look more natural and the procedure will require smaller incisions. Obviously, with smaller incisions, scars will be less visible than scars resulting from implant insertion. Also, when using a fat transfer procedure, the area from which fat deposits are harvested will be less likely to develop an excess of fat. A fat transfer procedure is a very good option for patients who want to get rid of any excess fat around their bodies and also enhance either buttock or breast volume. It is actually a win-win solving two main issues at the same time. Ask your surgeon for more details.

How Can I Get Wider Hips With lastic surgery?

How Can I Get Wider Hips With Plastic Surgery?

A plastic surgery that targets the hips is commonly known as hip augmentation. It will help you to enhance your hip volume through fat transfer. By using the fat transfer method, you can spend on average around $5,000. Of course, these are the average prices when dealing with surgeons all over the US, but sometimes the prices are higher in big towns or when dealing with highly experienced doctors. There is some characteristic that distinguishes these procedures that refer strictly to the procedure that is used to enlarge your hip volume.

As you have already deduced from the title, your hips will be enlarged using fat transfer from your own body. The most common area for harvesting the fat needed is the belly. Also known as fat grafting, the fat transfer procedure has some clear advantages.

First of all, there are no chances for your body to reject the fat deposits added as basically, it is your own fat. Also, there is no need for hospitalization, and the surgery can be carried out under local anesthetic, removing away all the side effects that can occur during a general anesthetic. There will be no discomfort as well after the surgery, as no foreign objects are inserted inside your body.

Not everyone is a good candidate for fat transfer. If the amount required for creating your new volume cannot be harvested from your body, your doctor will definitely not risk it, and he will suggest implants instead. The procedure usually takes around 3 hours, depending on the fat volume that needs to be transferred. Liposuction is used to harvest the desired fat deposits, and the surgeon will make an incision around your hips to add them inside. The recovery period usually takes four weeks, and it is one of the easiest recovery periods when talking about plastic surgeries.

3 Reasons Why People Choose Liposuction

3 Reasons Why People Choose Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that involves the removal of excess fat underneath the skin and is used in most plastic surgeries. The first liposuction techniques were used back in 1960, but it was only in 1982 when a safer procedure was developed, called the Illouz Method. It was named after the doctor that invented the blunt cannulas technique, Yves-Gerard Illouz.

In the late 90s, another procedure was developed that involves removing fat deposits using ultrasound. As other known methods in present days, we can distinguish different types of liposuction, all of them derived from three main techniques: suction, ultrasound, and laser. Power-assisted liposuction, twin-cannula liposuction, external-assisted liposuction, water-assisted, laser-assisted, and tumescent technique are all used depending on the patient’s requirements or condition.

After your first consultation, your doctor will explain to you how to prepare for the surgery, which side effects may appear, and how you should deal with the recovery process. Usually, the recovery process will vary from one individual to another depending on the area where liposuction is applied or a number of fat deposits removed. In some cases, a full recovery process will take up to 8 weeks, especially when liposuction is applied on the abdominal area.

In general, liposuction is considered to be a low-risk procedure only with few high risks reported after the procedure in the last ten years. Most fatalities were registered between 1998 and 2002, when 23 deaths were reported due to infection. Nowadays, with excellent developments in the plastic surgery industry, this number has significantly reduced and only one fatality was reported from 500,000 cases. As we can still find skepticism towards liposuction, here is how liposuction can benefit you in the long run.

  • Body contour

In some cases, even with rigorous exercise or a strict diet, our metabolism will not work 100%. With normal metabolism functions, the body will burn the extra fat deposits on its own or through exercise. However, poor sleep patterns, stress or unhealthy food can create abnormalities in metabolism. Here is where a liposuction can help with your body shape. However, it is always recommended to try out all other possibilities before choosing a liposuction as it is better for you to use lipo only in small areas and with minimum fat deposits removed.

  • Excessive sweating

Sweating is basically your body’s method to get rid of any extra fat. Having large fat deposits in your body, your metabolism will constantly try to get rid of them and sometimes it can lead to excessive sweating. Liposuction is a great way to get rid of this problem, especially if excessive sweating in your upper arms area can be annoying.

  • Fat production

Liposuction will slow down your body in producing fat deposits. However, in the long run, you need to help your body through strict diet and exercise. Even if liposuction is usually seen as a permanent solution to losing weight, it is not.

With liposuction, you can regain the confidence you have lost due to fat deposits that made you insecure in the way you look. See it as a small procedure that can give you a new start.
