How extensive is the scarring after the tummy tuck?

There are quite a number of people who are afraid of going through a tummy tuck even if qualified. The fear stems from reasonable concerns about post-operative scarring. While the tummy tuck is a major plastic surgery, and the scarring is relatively deeper and extensive, there are many factors in play that determine the extent of scarring after a tummy tuck.

One of the important factors that will affect the appearance of your tummy tuck scar depends on the technique your plastic surgeon uses during the surgery. There are different incision placement techniques for a tummy tuck surgery and if properly placed, your scar may not be as extensive or as visible.

A full tummy tuck surgery will require two incisions. Your surgeon uses these incisions to remove the surplus fat and skin from your abdomen and to repair any damaged abdominal wall muscle. The first is a horizontal incision, ideally placed below panty line and the second one is placed at the belly button.

Horizontal incision: This incision is used to excise the extra skin from your abdomen. Your plastic surgeon will place it below your panty line – between your navel and pubic mound. Please note that the exact location of the incision will depend on your anatomy and your aesthetic goals. Many plastic surgeons place this incision below the panty line so the scar is less noticeable and visible.

Navel incision: This incision is used to hold the navel securely in its place. The good news is that this incision also helps the surgeon aesthetically shape your belly button. Some surgeons use round shape incision around the belly button. There are many patients who don’t know about this incision type, and when they wear a bikini after the surgery, the navel scar can sometimes be visible. The inverted U is the preferred incision technique of many surgeons in the belly button area. The inverted U incision mimics the look of your actual navel, which result in a natural looking scar that blends with your body.

The horizontal and navel incisions can be placed very carefully, so that the bikini can cover one incision and the navel can camouflage the other. Discuss the post tummy tuck scarring with your plastic surgeon during the initial consultation to put your fears to rest. Ask your surgeon about the incisions techniques and placements he will perform. You must communicate your aesthetic goals to the surgeon up front, and if you hate scars, an honest discussion about scarring will manage expectations and be mutually beneficial.

The good news is that the resulting scars will gradually fade and become less visible over time. Please note that just like in any surgery, the scars will not completely disappear. The extent of scarring will also depend on your skin quality and post-operative care. You should avoid direct sun exposure for the first 4-6 months after the procedure to help minimize your tummy tuck scars.

During the recovery process, be sure to follow your surgeon’s instructions to the letter. Applying unnecessary pressure or force to the incisions or engaging in strenuous activities during the recovery period can result in extensive and unsightly scarring.

Oval or round butt implants?

The use of buttock implants for enhancement is a trendy procedure in the US at the moment. Every year, a large number of women undergo butt implant surgery to enhance their buttocks and boost their self-confidence as a result. Butt implants are made of highly durable, semi-solid silicone material. They can withstand immense force and pressure, which is why they are immune to ruptures.

During the surgery, your plastic surgeon places incisions on your butt and inserts the prosthetic devices inside. Your buttocks gain projection and better shape as a result. With the improvement in plastic surgery technologies, choices for butt enhancement have widened. This is particularly good news for patients considering the butt augmentation procedure. Now there are a variety of options to help enhance their booties. However, at times having many options can be overwhelming.

One of the common questions asked by patients is, “Should I have the oval or round butt implant?” It is an important question; however, there is no standard answer for all patients. Whether you should get oval or round implant depends on a number of factors, such as your aesthetic goals and desires, the aesthetic flaws in your butt, the shape you want to achieve, and your anatomy.

In my practice, round implants are very common. The reasons are multiple. Round implants are extra lenient in case your butt faces a trauma after the implant procedure. Should the implant be displaced or shifted, it would not significantly change the aesthetic of your buttocks. Additionally, round implants offer a better aesthetic view. Most patients who have had round implants report being satisfied with their new look.

On the other hand, oval implants are also effective. Depending on your aesthetic goals and expectations, your plastic surgeon may recommend oval implants. However, I use them only when I strongly believe they hold more benefits for you. The bad news is that oval implants are prone to implant displacement or shifting, which results in changed butt shape.

Moreover, oval implants tend to raise more of the low-lying areas of your buttocks. However, that is very trivial and not worthy of the additional risks. It is important for patients to share their aesthetic goals and expectations with their plastic surgeons before making a decision. Also, your plastic surgeon is in a better position to understand your goals and problems, so you should count on his expert opinion and recommendation when it comes to selecting a butt implant shape and size.

That being said, round implants are the most recommended type. If your buttocks are smaller, flatter, poorly shaped, mildly saggy, or asymmetrical, round implants will effectively resolve the problem. After the surgery, your buttocks will appear rounder, perkier, bigger, toned, and voluptuous. Oval implants do not offer all of these benefits at once. Furthermore, the risk of complications is lower for patients who get round implants.

Traer a tu pareja a una consulta de cirugía plástica

Cuando se considera una cirugía de aumento de senos, la selección de los implantes depende de la elasticidad de la piel, las dimensiones de los senos, y los deseos del paciente. Para poder determinar el volumen más adecuado para los implantes, el cirujano plástico debe medir el ancho del tórax y evaluar cuanto tejido mamario está disponible para cubrir el implante.

Hay docenas de modelos disponibles para implantes de senos, con diferentes formas, capacidades, consistencias y texturas. Lo importante cuando se considera una cirugía de aumento de senos es escoger a un cirujano plástico que tenga mucha experiencia con diferentes tipos de implantes.

Cuando se va visitar al cirujano plástico que realizará el procedimiento, a la mayoría de los pacientes les gusta llevar a su pareja, mientras que otros incluso ni consideran esto como una opción.

Cirugía de implantes de senos

Con los avances en la cirugía plástica que se han desarrollado a través de estos últimos años, los implantes de senos ahora se pueden adaptar para su pecho. Para poder corregir potenciales asimetrías, el cirujano podría incluso decidir utilizar implantes de diferentes tamaños para ambos senos. El principal inconveniente para un aumento de senos con cirugía de implantes es el riesgo de rotación de implantes.

El volumen de implantes los varía entre 125 y 575 centímetros cúbicos. En Europa, el volumen promedio es de aproximadamente 280 cc y es de 350 cc en los Estados Unidos. Parece ser una cuestión de cultura como en los Estados Unidos, donde las mujeres prefieren implantes grandes y más visibles.

Para los pacientes pequeños y delgados, los cirujanos plásticos recomiendan un implante pequeño que no exceda de 300 cc. Esto garantizará un resultado más natural, ya sea utilizando un implante anatómico o uno redondo.

Basándose en los datos morfológicos y deseos del paciente, el paciente puede escoger el tipo de implante (el tamaño y la forma) después de usar un sujetador médico o deportivo. Esto ocurrirá durante la consulta inicial con el cirujano plástico.

Reasons Why You Might Not Be Eligible for Buttock Augmentation with Implants

The buttock augmentation is a plastic surgery intervention and liposculpture procedure that aims to correct congenital, traumatic, or aesthetic imperfections at the level of the buttocks and the gluteal region. It also aims to increase the size of the butt. The correcting procedure includes the placement of a gluteal implant, liposculpture (liposuction followed by fat transfer to the buttocks), as well as body contouring with the help of lifting procedures.

Limitations of buttock augmentation with implants

Anatomically speaking, the mass of each buttock includes two muscles (gluteus maximus and medius), which are covered with a layer of adipose tissue. The superior parts of the buttocks end at the iliac crest and the inferior at the lower part of the buttocks. The right and left gluteal muscles are vertically separated by the intergluteal fold, where the anus is.

The etiology of the buttocks contour imperfections can be genetic, traumatic, or earned. These defects bring contour issues and damage the normal curve of the buttocks. After the surgery, because of the incision in the muscles, the complete healing of the tissue will take six to eight months. During this time, the gluteal muscles are relaxed, and the implants are perfectly integrated into the area. The gluteal implant surgery can be performed on a patient under general anesthetic or under local anesthetic with sedation.

You are not an eligible candidate for the procedure if you fail to understand that the implant can change position after surgery due to the increased mechanical stress on the region (when walking, sitting down, running).

Another issue that might deem you as not eligible for the buttock augmentation with implants surgery is the final shape of the buttocks. The gluteal implants are made out of thick silicone, and they alone can’t improve the shape of the buttocks. If you desire a change in buttocks anatomy, the plastic surgeon will also need to use liposuction or fat transfer to the area. If you are unwilling to undergo multiple procedures at the same time but you want to change your buttocks from a V shape to an A shape, the plastic surgeon might decide not to perform surgery on you.

You might also not be eligible for a buttock augmentation with implants surgery if you are prone to infections. These implants are positioned in an area of the body where the possibility of infection is very high because of the proximity to the rectal area. In some cases, and because of the infections, the implants must be removed, and the area needs to be cleaned to allow the body to heal.

The buttock augmentation with implants is a procedure that can certainly help you achieve the butt of your dreams, but only if you are eligible for the procedure. There are plenty of reasons why you might not be eligible for the surgery, and the doctor might refuse to perform surgery on you. Such an intervention should only be performed when the patient and the surgeon agree on all aspects during the initial consultation. Another key point is the understanding by the person interested in undergoing the surgery that the outcome might not be what he or she expected. The surgeon can’t guarantee that your buttocks will look exactly like Kim Kardashian’s, nor that they will have the same size. If you want this, you are not eligible for surgery.
